Parents should play an important role in children’s future profession - AG

Parents should play an important role to encourage their children to take up any profession including that of an auditor.

Acting Prime Minister Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted this when he was asked if the government can do something to increase auditors in Fiji.

In the 2017/2018 National Budget Consultation with private sector through a text platform Sayed-Khaiyum was asked to look into recruiting more auditors in Fiji.

The text read that we have a lot of doctors and lawyers but it is very hard to find an auditor.

The Minister in response says that most of our parents want their children to become teachers, doctors, nurses and lawyers, however very few parents think of their children becoming an auditor.

He adds that parents should change their mind set and encourage their children to study any profession including an auditor.

Sayed-Khaiyum also stresses that the accounting firms need to play an important role in creating interest in that area.
