Parents should call the Ministry of Education on the toll free line 163 if schools are asking parents to buy text books.
Fijivillage has been receiving reports of some schools asking students to buy certain text books for the new school years. Parents are now confused as they say that the government had clearly stated that they now have free text books supplied in all schools.
We have also cited the booklists provided by these schools.
The Education Ministry has already stressed that parents, guardians and students do not need to purchase any textbooks for the 2019 academic year.
Minister for Education Rosy Akbar has now made it clear that schools have been equipped with textbooks and parents, guardians and students do not need to purchase any textbooks for the 2019 academic year.
We have asked the Education Ministry why textbooks were still listed on some booklists given by some schools as some parents have already bought those textbooks.
They are yet to respond.
