Those entities where government is a shareholder have their own reporting mechanism and are answerable to their own shareholders and their own boards.
This was the reply from the Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade and Acting Permanent Secretary for Public Enterprises Shaheen Ali while responding to questions before the Public Accounts Committee.
SODELPA MP and Accounts Committee member Aseri Radrodro asked Ali why some entities which are getting funding from government through grants are not audited by the Auditor General’s office.
Ali said these entities have their own governance process.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Auditor General Atunaisa Nadakuitavuki highlighted that there are some entities which they are trying to get back in their audits.
He said some of these are the Fiji National University, Reserve Bank of Fiji and the Fiji National Provident Fund.
