Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has told his Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru to meet with his Fijian counterpart Faiyaz Koya and resolve developing trade issues between the two countries.

O’Neill told Fijivillage that they want to clear the misunderstanding between the two countries.

He says he does not want to upset the growing trade relationship between Fiji and PNG.

EMTV reports that a submission has been made to PNG’s National Executive Council to severe all imports of Fijian goods into Papua New Guinea.

Maru called Fiji a dishonourable country which has failed to honour trade agreements the two countries signed under the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) trade agreement in 1998.

We are currently trying to get a response from the Minister for Trade, Faiyaz Koya.
