Prime Minister and Conference of Parties 23 President Voreqe Bainimarama

Prime Minister and Conference of Parties 23 President, Voreqe Bainimarama has updated the Australian Government on Fiji’s extensive preparatory works in the lead‑up to COP23 at a meeting in Suva with Australia’s lead climate negotiator and Ambassador for Environment, Patrick Suckling.

Bainimarama expressed his keen interest to work with the Australian Government to advance Fiji’s presidential agenda at the negotiations in Bonn, Germany in November, particularly the objective to limit global temperature rise to the more ambitious target of 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre‑industrial levels.

He thanked Ambassador Suckling for Australia’s support to the Fijian Presidency.

The meeting was also attended by Attorney‑General and Minister responsible for climate change, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum, and the Minister for Agriculture and High‑Level Climate Champion, Inia Seruiratu.
