Prime Minister and incoming COP23 President Voreqe Bainimarama, played a leading role in the Ministerial Meeting on Climate Action hosted in Montreal, Canada.
The meeting brought together representatives from 34 governments as well as other key stakeholders to discuss means of advancing the implementation of the Paris Agreement and expectations for COP23.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris Agreement and their support for the Fijian COP23 Presidency.
As the first small island developing state to hold the role of COP President, many countries expressed their support for Fiji leading the global effort to increase ambition and accelerate climate action around the world.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama held bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada earlier this week.
Prime Minister Trudeau expressed his support for the Fijian COP Presidency and for the full implementation of the Paris Agreement.
