The sick and elderly now have a better and quicker access to medical assistance after the opening of the new Waivaka Pedestrian Bridge in Namosi.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says those who grow crops will also have a quicker and better access to markets to sell their crops.
Bainimarama says the new pedestrian bridge costs more than $320,000, of which $275,000 came from the Fiji Roads Authority and $46,000 was given by the Australian Government through its Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
He says students from the Fiji National University and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology designed the bridge under the supervision of a local structural engineering firm, Engineered Designs.
Bainimarama says as the Prime Minister he will not rest until every Fijian, no matter where they live to enjoy the same services as people living in the cities and towns.
He says it will take time to fulfil this ambition.
