The Shangri-La is far more than just a resort, it is a true piece of Fijian history, it is a proud fixture of the tourism industry and is a shining example of what a business can achieve.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama highlighted this at the 50th anniversary celebrations of Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa.

Bainimarama says that the resort has served as a model partnership between a business and a local community which is the Tikina of Cuvu.

He said that the resort has created a win-win situation that benefits developers, ordinary Fijians and all of Fiji.

Bainimarama said in the early years, before the country had emerged as the world-class tourism destination it is today, the resort was a bench-mark for setting standards for service and innovation.

He said the resort had done more than just promote Fiji, they have played a big part in helping protect the environment for future generations.
