Discussions about the progress of Cyclone Winston rebuilding efforts were held between Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific Concetta Fierravanti‑Wells yesterday.
At the meeting the Prime Minister discussed Fiji’s preparatory work for his Presidency of COP 23, the United Nations negotiations on climate change, and Australia’s support for Fiji’s presidential agenda.
The Prime Minister also thanked Minister Fierravanti‑Wells for attending the national service and for Australia’s assistance since Cyclone Winston struck Fiji last year.
Fierravanti‑Wells will also meet with non‑government organisations in Fiji who assisted in the distribution of Australian assistance after the cyclone.
The Australian Government has provided 35 million Australian dollars in Winston‑related assistance to repair and rebuild schools, health facilities, damaged markets and restore water and sanitation services.
