Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has called the man behind the Christchurch terror attack a coward adding that his only goal was to instill fear in the hearts of those groups who are targeted.
Bainimarama says that as difficult as this maybe, people should try not to be intimidated by such acts of terror and terrorism.
The Prime Minister says that all too often after a hate‑filled act, we describe the crimes as unspeakable but while this shooting in Christchurch is unfathomable in both its scale and in the monstrous nature it was committed, it is not unspeakable.
He says that staying silent, and not speaking up, would be an injustice to the victims and to all of humanity.
While addressing the families of the victims Bainimarama told them that they have the support of not just fellow Fijians and of Kiwis, but people from all around the world who are holding similar vigils to honour the innocent men, women and children who lost their lives.
He then directly addressed the Muslim community in Fiji saying they are safe and loved.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Muslim League will be setting up a space for locals to convey their condolences for the families and the victims of the shooting massacre in Christchurch that happened last week.
This will be done at the Samabula mosque where people can put down flowers and their written messages. The space will be available from 9am onwards.
