The People’s Democratic Party has lodged an application with the Electoral Commission to review the nomination of four of their proposed candidates which have been rejected.
At a press conference this afternoon, General Secretary Aman Ravindra Singh stressed that they had submitted 50 names and four nominations were rejected.
These include Daniel Urai, Shamal Singh, Lekima Lawanitoakula and Hiroshi Taniguchi.
Aman Ravindra Singh said three of their candidates nominations were rejected for traffic offences while Taniguchi’s nomination was rejected on the grounds that he did not have a Fiji passport.
Singh said that Taniguchi has been a resident in Fiji for more than 10 years and he has renounced his Japanese citizenry.
Party President Lynda Tabuya said in the last 18 months, Taniguchi has been a resident in Fiji.
Meanwhile PDP has also filed six objections against the candidates of FijiFirst yesterday.
General Secretary Aman Ravindra Singh said the objections are based on reasons that these people continue to be civil servants and public officers on the day of their nominations.
The six candidates include Praveen Kumar Bala, Inia Seruiratu, Dr Brij Lal, Pio Tikoduadua, Laisenia Tuitubou and Joeli Cawaki.
The party is also claiming that these candidates are being paid by the civil service and that they remain public officers.
Party President Lynda Tabuya is hopeful that the Electoral Commission will conduct it’s investigation into this.
