The Public Accounts Committee has asked the Ministry of Health to provide a report by next month in relation to the status and the value of drugs which expired between 2008 to 2014.
During the Public Accounts Meeting, it was highlighted that close to $2.8 million worth of drugs expired between 2004 and 2008.
A committee member, Aseri Radrodro asked the Ministry of Health official to provide an update on what has been done to improve the issue of expired drugs, damaged drugs and out of stock drugs.
Deputy Secretary Finance, Marika Luveniyali said they now have a procurement plan in place however he said they are facing some challenges.
Meanwhile, Government Member on the Committee, Sanjit Patel suggested that the Ministry provide a list of suppliers and freight companies engaged by them in the last five years.
The Committee has also asked the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary and the Chief Pharmacist to be present at the meeting on the 23rd of next month.
