Overloading remains a very serious concern and Fiji Roads Authority CEO Jonathan Moore says this costs the country a lot of money as overloaded vehicles are damaging our bridges, roads and jetties.
Moore says they had to do major strengthening works on the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge because of serious overloading issues.
He says with Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge located on the only entry and exit point along Queens Highway, the plan is to complete work on the new Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge by the end of next year.
Moore says the massive overloading issue remains for the current bridge.
Moore says Land Transport Authority’s mobile weighbridges have been placed before the bridge however he wants overloading to be under control.
The FRA CEO says the Road Haulage Association has some ideas of getting different vehicles and tyre configurations. He says there was an assurance that this will be done by this month.
