About 83,538 people living in the Rewa Delta can expect better water pressure soon as the Water Authority of Fiji is in the process of designing a duplicate 200mm pipeline that will be installed just outside Nausori Town.
The project is expected to cost $3.7 million.
Water Authority’s CEO Opetaia Ravai says the Rewa Delta has faced low pressure to no water supply for the past few months during peak hours and at times during off peak hours as well.
Ravai says based on the total demand of the Nausori water supply, the existing pumps cannot deliver the required level of flow to meet peak day demands and the existing pipeline is too small to cater for the peak day demand downstream.
He says they are in the process of procuring a brand new pump and this pump should be installed by October this year.
Ravai says they are also in the process of duplicating their truck main from Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Rewa Bridge.
This is expected to inject additional water flow towards Nausori Town as well as to the Rewa Delta.
He says the long term solution for the Nausori water supply system is the construction and commissioning of the Viria Water Treatment Plant.
This project is expected to be commissioned in early 2021.
