The National Fire Authority has attended to more than 500 rubbish, bush and cane fires this month.
CEO John O’Connor said bush, grass, cane and rubbish fires are now becoming a great concern for the Authority as it continues to threaten lives and properties.
O’Connor said he witnessed huge bush and forest area on fire recently in the Northern Division and it was not possible to control.
He also said people should be mindful that it is a dry and windy season.
Two houses in Lautoka and Labasa were destroyed by bush and cane fire a few weeks ago.
He also said that pedestrians should refrain from throwing cigarette butts and match sticks on the roadside.
Meanwhile, according to National Fire Authority statistic, 50 homes have been destroyed in fire so far this year while 120 properties were destroyed for the same period last year.
