Over 424,000 people have registered for e-ticketing cards, which is almost 50 percent of the entire population.
Vodafone Head of E-Commerce and Corporate Affairs Shalendra Prasad confirmed this and says there is 100 percent cooperation from bus operators around the country.
Prasad says Vodafone has beefed up with resources in terms of the number of technicians required to complete installing e-ticketing machines in buses by late next week and the progress is very good.
He says disposable cards will be available in the buses but being registered means the money in the card will not expire.
He says Vodafone has pre-registered all primary and secondary school students based on the list provided by the Ministry of Education using the Ministry’s unique ID for each student.
Prasad says the cards are being dispatched today to the different divisions, schools and eventually to all the classes.
He says for students under the voucher program, the cards are also provisioned by Vodafone, and the cards will already be loaded with the money that will be used for the remainder of the term.
E-ticketing comes into effect from the 1st of October and you can register at any Vodafone, Valuefone and Mr. Mobile outlet.
