Over 300 people with spinal disability have been helped by the Viti Spinal Injury Association of Fiji.

The annual Old Skool Ball held last night has become a prime charity event of the year with the goal to raise awareness and funds for people living with spinal injuries.

Host, Sir Ratu Epeli Nailatikau encouraged people present at the gala to give more as it helped those in need get a better life.

Chief guest, All Blacks Legend famously known as the 'Ice Man' Sir Michael Jones who is heavily involved in community and social work and is a role model and inspiration throughout the Pacific says that social and mental support is needed to help sipnal disabled people get out of their shell.

31-year-old spinal cord injury patient Sekonaia Kotobalavu who  had been assisted by the Viti Spinal Injury Association of Fiji with a new home gave his appreciation to all that were present.

Kotobalavu says that his old house in Wailea settlement was in a flood prone area and it would only take 30 minutes of heavy rain for the area to become flooded.

While lying on his bed, he would feel the house shaking due to the water rushing underneath the house.

Kotobalavu says that the new house in Nasinu makes life very easy for him and he is very happy to leave something behind for his family when he passes away.

Prizes that were auctioned off last night including travel, accommodation, dining, and sports memorabilia and also, All Blacks jersey signed and donated by Richie McCaw and other memorabilia from Eric Rush and other sporting legends.

The most memorable Prize last night was 2 tickets to watch the All Blacks take on the Wallabies in August with travel and accommodation provided with a chance to watch the game from the New Zealand Cooperate box at Eden Park in New Zealand.
