Over 25,000 Fijian households now have access to electricity through the Rural Electrification Project.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Infrastructure, Jone Usamate who adds that government has put in place plans in the Fiji National Development Plan to ensure that all Fijians have access to electricity by 2021.
In the most recent commissioned Rural Electrification Project, a total of 345 Fijians of the Qiolevu Settlement in Navuso now have access to electricity.
Usamate highlighted that the positive impacts of this development will provide a step up in life and enable the people of Qiolevu Settlement to achieve greater things for their families and for Fiji.
He adds that having access to electricity can unlock our full potentials and contribute to the achievement of our development goals, including those related to the eradication of poverty and improving the livelihood of our people.
The Minister also encouraged people who have benefitted from this project not to let this chance go to waste and to apply themselves to continue making valuable contributions to our national development, and together carry Fiji into an even brighter future.
