Deputy Secretary for Hospital Services Dr Luisa Cikamatana says we need to make healthy lifestyle changes now.
While speaking to participants of the Weight Loss Programme at their awards night, Cikamatana stressed that a healthy lifestyle is important now more than ever before, especially with the ever increasing rate of non-communicable diseases in Fiji.
Cikamatana says that the four major types of non-communicable diseases are cardio-vascular disease, cancers, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes.
She says that as such, Health Promotion and Health Literacy remain a top priority for the Ministry of Health.
She adds that the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Education are encouraging school children to become ambassadors of health.
