More than 1,200 Fiji National Provident Fund members living in the worst flood‑affected areas in the Western Division have received Natural Disaster assistance totalling more than $1.04 million.
FNPF Chief Executive Officer, Jaoji Koroi says since the assistance was activated, they have been working closely with the Commissioner Western’s Office to prioritize those living in the worst affected areas.
Majority of these members live in Ba and Nadi which was the areas that were severely affected by the floods.
Koroi says their teams have been working around the clock to reach as many members as possible and have issued more than 7,500 forms to date.
He says some members have missed out on the initial inspection but their teams have been notified and have revisited these members.
Koroi says some members have tried to beat the system by photocopying forms, however, he stressed that applications received on such forms will not be accepted.
He says members living in other parts of the country continue to inquire and some have even attempted to apply for the assistance despite living in the other regions and they will not accept these applications.
Koroi says this only delays their efforts to get to those who really need the assistance and they continue to remind members these funds are from their retirement savings and they are only assisted if they are eligible or have enough funds in their general account.
