Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said to be Fijian is to contribute to the betterment of our society.
Speaking during the celebration of the 160th Anniversary of the settlement of Chinese in Fiji at Ratu Sukuna Park today, Bainimarama said as Fijians our cultural diversity is an important source of our strength.
He said the Chinese Fijian community has made an important contribution to the strength of our diversity ever since the first Chinese immigrants arrived in Fiji 160 years ago.
Bainimarama also launched a book which was about the Life of the Chinese in Fiji from 1855-2015.
President of the Chinese Association of Fiji, Jenny Seeto said they are proud of their contribution to the development of Fiji and their role in nation building.
Seeto said this demonstrates the strength of cultural diversity in Fiji and being a Fijian at heart and in mind.
The Fijian Chinese community marched through Suva today in celebration of their 160 years since settling in Fiji.
