Osea Navulo imprisoned for striking brother in law with cane knife

Osea Navulo has been sentenced to 3 years, 5 months and 3 weeks imprisonment for striking his brother in law with a cane knife.

Navulo pleaded guilty to one count of Act With Intent To Cause Grievous Harm in the Labasa Magistrates Court.

On 26th March 2016, Navulo and the victim had an argument where the victim threaten to punch Navulo.

Navulo took the cane knife and started swinging it towards the victim.

At the time the man and the victim were standing close to each other.

The cane knife landed on the victim’s left jaw.

It was heard in court that the victim had a large 15cm wound.

While delivering his sentence, Magistrate Cama Tuberi said the man offended at home where respect and peace should be displayed.

He said the victim was injured and the man ran away and never assisted in taking the victim to the hospital.

A non-parole period of 2 years has been fixed.
