Minister for Transport, Parveen Bala

Questions were today raised in Parliament by the opposition on what is the government’s plan to address the issue of outstanding compensation that was to be paid to the passengers, mostly school children of the Raiwaqa bus that crashed at Kubukawa road in Kalabu last year.

Opposition Parlimentarian, Viliame Gavoka also asked the Minister for Transport, Parveen Bala on who is policing the defects in the transportation system.

Gavoka posed the supplementary question after Bala said that the issue of compensation directly relates to the case against the driver of the bus which is currently pending before the Nasinu Magistrates Court.

Speaker of Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni then made a ruling that the case is before the court and she will not allow Parliament to discuss the issue.

Gavoka then stated again that the public must be assured that buses running on the roads are free of defects.

He said they need some answers on this.

Bala then said that they must respect the standing orders and he will not get trapped by people.
