The Opposition is claiming that the government through the Parliament Business Committee and Parliament is imposing severe restrictions on the type of questions, motions and petitions that can be tabled by them in parliament.
Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa says that this week any question, motion and petition to do with the Sugar Industry, i‑taukei and indigenous rights and development within any oppositions MPs’ constituency have been refused.
Leader of the Government in Parliament Inia Seruiratu says the decision regarding the admission or non‑admission of questions, motions or petitions is made by the Speaker.
He says they respect the independence and judgement of the Speaker as the final arbiter in such matters.
Questions have been sent to the Speaker, Doctor Jiko Luveni.
She is yet to respond.
