One of the challenges for the Water Authority of Fiji is the aged infrastructure such as old and under-sized pipes when they transitioned from PWD to Water Authority of Fiji.
Water Authority of Fiji General Manager Planning, Design and Construction Nemani Waqanivalu made this comment to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources while presenting their 2013-2014 Annual Report.
Waqanivalu says they are now replacing the old pipes with PVC pipes.
Waqanivalu says these pipes were sized and designed to cater for demand levels at that time.
He told the Committee that another challenge for them is the retention of staff.
Waqanivalu says with the recent pay increase in the private and public sector has contributed towards worked skilled work force to opt for work outside the Authority especially in the scarce skilled areas.
He adds that the Authority is working at implementing the outcome of the Job Evaluation Exercise to address this issue and review their Human Resource Policy and application of Labour Laws.
