The Office of the Auditor General is looking at assisting provincial council treasurers with basic training on accounting and record keeping to help maintain their accounts.
This was revealed by the Auditor General, Ajay Nand while presenting their 2015 Annual Report to the Public Accounts Committee.
The Office of the Auditor General is committed to having the accounts of the 14 Provincial Councils audited and updated by 2020.
Nand says that there has been an issue of delay in obtaining the provincial council accounts for a long time adding the last time the accounts of the 14 provincial councils was audited and fully updated was in 1985.
Nand says that the Office of the Auditor General has now received a lot of the provincial accounts from the Ministry of Itaukei Affairs and they have an aim to have 140 of the outstanding provincial accounts till 2007 by the end of this year.
