An increased number of Police officers were deployed to the capital city last night and this morning to clear the city areas of night revelers.
Police Director Operations SSP Abdul Khan revealed that as part of the ongoing Operation Yadrayadravi, Totogo Station personnel are not only being boosted by manpower from Headquarters throughout the weekends, but in the early hours of the morning.
He adds that officers residing at the Nasese Barracks are deployed to assist in town coverage.
Khan says that this is being done to ensure people who come in to enjoy the Suva City nightlife are not targeted by criminal elements often because of their intoxicated state.
He says that this operation is also to clear the city areas for those coming in for their Saturday shopping and to conduct their Sunday activities without being hassled.
Kahn also revealed that static deployment of officers has been set up at the Miller's Wharf to counter likely offences such as theft which is common during this time of year from fishing vessels.
He says that operations will be beefing up visibility to provide the conducive environment for everyone to enjoy a safe Christmas.
