Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa has said they cannot do much when asked by some of the youth to bring back the i-Taukei scholarships.
Ro Teimumu Kepa made the comments to about 60 people in Nakasi during the SODELPA Constituency meeting at the Navuloa Community Hall.
The youth present in the meeting asked the Opposition Leader what the party can do to create lifeline scholarships for i-Taukei students.
Ro Teimumu said the new system is in place and people should think about this in the next elections.
The awarding of the government scholarships are no longer based on race.
It is based on merit and given to people under the National Toppers Scholarship Scheme.
Other school leavers can apply for the Student Loan Scheme after they secure their places in their universities.
Issues relating to the work conditions at Grand Pacific Hotel were also raised by a worker.
Opposition member Niko Nawaikula said the petition has been presented in parliament and the Parliamentary Select Committee will look into this soon.
Nawaikula also said that they will continue to fight for i-Taukei rights.
