The Ministry of Employment has stressed that not all work done by children is child labor.
While clearing the air on concerns raised about child labor at the Ministry of Employment roadshow in Nausori Village Hall, the Ministry Manager Complaints Northern and Central, Eferemo Ratucoko says child labour is when children work when they are supposed to be in school.
He adds that child labor is also employing children under the age of 15 in Fiji.
Ratucoko says children above the age of 15 can be employed during school holidays but not more then 8 hours.
He says employers should also have written consent from parents and these children are supposed to be paid the normal wages in the 10 sectoral wages platform.
Ratucoko says that there should also be record kept on the wages paid to these children.
