Some Justices of Peace and Commissioners of Oath are allegedly charging members of the public when witnessing documents.
Concerns have been raised by some residents in the North that some JPs and Commissioners in Labasa have their own charges when people approach them for assistance.
These JPs and Commissioners are allegedly charging people $2 to $5.
Chief Justice Anthony Gates said upon appointment and when undergoing training, JPs and Commissioners were repeatedly reminded that they are not allowed to charge for their functions in their offices.
Chief Justice Gates said the rules against charging are well known and understood by the JPs and those found wrongly charging individuals are liable to have their appointment revoked.
He urged members of the public in the North to lodge their complaints to the Chief Registrar.
He said upon investigation, action may result depending on the facts of the complaint.
According to the Judicial Department website, there are more than 10 Commissioners in the North and about 25 Justices of Peace.
