There is confirmation that all public service vehicle operations will be normal during the Elections on 17th September which will be a public holiday.
During a press conference today, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Works, Transport and Public Utilities, Francis Kean confirmed that this is to cater and facilitate people’s transportation needs to their respective polling stations around the country.
Kean said buses, taxis, carrier, mini buses and rural service license will be available and will operate normally and the public has been urged to maximize their availability since it has been designed specifically for voting purposes.
Kean said that the Fiji Bus Operators Association, Fiji Minivan and Carrier Association, Fiji Minibus Association and Fiji Taxi Association have also reaffirmed and reassured their normal operation on Elections day.
He said that all necessary technical and logistical arrangements have been made with relevant authority and other stakeholders.
Kean added that the Land Transport Authority will be activating a national operations center from 16th and 17th September to ensure there is service continuity.
