Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Veena Bhatnagar has stressed that there is no shortage of medicine and things are being blown out of proportion by the Fiji Times and she is strongly condemning it.
Bhatnagar made this comment after NFP Leader Dr Biman Prasad released a statement saying Bhatnagar should resign after accusing the people of ignoring their health and therefore causing the shortage of medicine.
Bhatnagar says she has been misquoted by the Fiji Times.
She adds the Minister for Health and Medical Services was also misquoted.
She adds that Dr Biman Prasad should have clarified the matter with them first on whether she made the statement.
Bhatnagar says she made the statement that everybody should be responsible for their health or take ownership of their health because 89 percent of deaths in Fiji is caused by NCD’s.
Bhatnagar says she did not say that due to people’s ignorance there is shortage of medicines.
Bhatnagar says she had a talk with the hospitals and the
Fiji Pharmaceutical Supplies and she was informed that all basic items such as paracetamol, pain relief medications, and antibiotics are available at health centres.
She adds if for some reason the centres run short of the medications, they always inform them so that they can facilitate the demands.
