Police have confirmed that there have been no road fatalities in the last month.
Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says the fact that they can achieve zero road fatalities within a month is extremely positive news proving the notion that preventing the loss of lives on our roads is attainable.
He says, annually they record an average of 40 to 50 lives lost on our roads, and while it seemed an impossible feat to record nil fatalities within a month, this has been proven wrong for the month of November 2016.
However Qiliho says that in the month of December they have recorded three fatal accidents to date.
Qiliho says what was achieved in the month of November makes him optimistic that they can save lives if people adhere to road safety at all times.
The road death toll currently stands at 52 compared to 61 for the same period last year and Qiliho is hopeful that this figure will not be increasing as we come to the end of another year.
The National Traffic Department has been vigorously conducting awareness campaigns on the need to reduce road fatalities throughout country and this is where the issue of responsibility is vital.
