No police report over alleged assault on student

Police can only investigate a matter if they receive a report.

This follows the suspension of a head teacher of a school in Tailevu who allegedly assaulted a student.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says they have not received a report from the parents of the Year 8 student.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Education says they have received the full report after an internal investigation was carried out.

It is alleged the head teacher hit the Year 8 student with a war club after he was caught wearing flip flops in school and refused to take them off when he was asked to do so by the teacher.

The ministry confirmed that the parents of the student lodged an official complaint about the alleged incident.
