Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has reminded the new recruits of the Fiji Police Force there is no place in the Force for officers who sleep on the job.

Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho

Speaking at the opening of the second batch of the Basic Recruits Course, Qiliho shared a story of a police officer who he caught last Sunday sleeping on the job and was smelling of alcohol.

When questioned by Fijivillage on what action has been taken against this officer, Qiliho says he will be let go from the force.

The Commissioner says he has sent officers home after they were seen sleeping at the airport and at the President’s Office.

Qiliho says he does not want to look back on his time as the Commissioner of Police and feel guilty because he did not do everything possible to make Fiji a safer place to live for Fijians and visitors.

Qiliho says they need officers who know they are here to serve and that their life as a police officer has a purpose.

He also reminded the new recruits that they will have to sacrifice time away from loved ones, sacrifice the comfort of their homes if they are deployed for operations, sacrifice special celebrations, and since most of them are young and are yet to start a family, they may even sacrifice the joyous occasion of welcoming a new addition to their family as they will be required to serve the communities here in Fiji and serve in overseas missions.

New Recruit, Aaron Krishna

New Recruit, Aaron Krishna who is 22 years old says that he is still adjusting to the lifestyle from being a civilian to becoming a police officer.
