Two doctors that examined alleged rapist, Ilaitia Nalawa last year have told the Suva High Court that they have no medical proof to show that he was assaulted.
31‑year‑old Ilaitia Nalawa is charged with the rape of a 9‑year‑old girl in Nakasi in July last year.
Doctor Rayneel Singh from the Nausori Health Centre said Nalawa had no signs of being assaulted when he was examined on 24th July 2015.
He said Nalawa only had deformities from old injuries which were sustained in 2012.
The second witness, Doctor Talemaitoga Tamanitoakula said Nalawa claimed coughing out blood because of chest pains when he was examined at the Suva Corrections Service remand centre on 16th November 2015.
Tamanitoakula said after carrying out the necessary medical investigation, there was no medical proof that Nalawa was assaulted.
The trial continues in the Suva High Court.
