Suva High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza has raised serious concerns that there was no escorting officer late yesterday afternoon to take an accused person in a rape trial to the holding cell block from the courtroom.
Before normal court proceedings started this morning, Justice Hamza called a police escorting officer and told him that they have to act responsibly.
He told the officer that the trial of a 33-year-old man who is alleged to have raped a 4-year-old girl continued till 5.30pm yesterday and there was no escorting officer to take the accused to the cell block.
The Judge stated that the rape accused could have run away.
Justice Hamza says luckily his orderly was in court who took the rape accused to the cell block.
