Minister for Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola says that there is no driver’s positions in the Fiji Police Force and all officers have to know how to drive when they attend any reports.
Kubuabola was responding to a question by SODELPA MP, Mikaele Leawere, who had asked why a driving license is a requisite for Police selection.
Leawere says at a recent recruitment drive by the Fiji Police Force, a large number of people were turned away as they did not possess a driving license.
Kubuabola says only the Commissioner of Police has an allocation for a driver.
He says the United Nations and Regional Peacekeeping deployments or appointments has key requirements and deployment requirement as core competency with at least Group II driving license.
The Defence minister adds the Tier Model of the Fiji Police Force structure will equip only certain number allocations of personnel where there is no provision for so called ‘extras’ as drivers.
Kubuabola says the personnel allocated within these ‘Tier’ modelled stations and community posts will mandatorily have to drive to and from their deployment tasking of daily engagements by themselves.
