The General Secretary of the Methodist Church Reverend Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa says he cannot comment on the specifics of the Methodist Church wanting Fiji to become a Christian State.
When questioned by Fijivillage, Reverend Vakadewavosa says the constitution of the church endorses that the church supports the government of the day and believes strongly in democracy but church is free to raise any concerns that is tolerated by government against the Christians principles.
He says the Methodist Church is not a mouth piece for SODELPA as it is a neutral organisation and the largest religious organisation in the country.
He says the Prime Minister is a Methodist, the Speaker is a Methodist and many MPs in the FijiFirst are Methodists so a Methodist is free to join any political party.
Reverend Vakadewavosa says they are asking the government for an extension of the timeline for village by law consultations because it is a very critical and important issue, not only to the Itaukei but to the wider community in Fiji.
