Christmas came early for the residents of the Samabula Senior Citizens Home thanks to the opening of their newly refurbished kitchen that was funded by the Fiji National Provident Fund.
While opening the refurbished kitchen, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa thanked FNPF for the heart to step forward and undertake the refurbishment so that our Senior Citizens enjoy the quality of a modernized kitchen in a place they have come to call home.
She adds that the execution of the project was timely as we are now days away from Christmas and the end of the year.
FNPF General Manager Member Services Alipate Waqairawai says that as part of their 50th anniversary, FNPF visited various homes around the country
He says that it has brought moments of self-reflection and a deeper sense of appreciation of life in general for the staff of FNPF.
Waqairawai says that projects such as these have challenged the staff of FNPF to think about how they as an organisation can play its social security role more effectively for its members and society.
Meanwhile the cost of the materials for renovations is $18,000 and the labour was provided voluntarily by an FNPF charity partner; Fortech Construction Limited.
