The Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has clarified in parliament that new doctors and nurses will need to be mentored for sometime but this does not mean that they are not qualified.
This is after Opposition MP, Niko Nawaikula highlighted during the debate on the Ministry of Health and Medical Services 2014 Annual Report, that nurses that are coming out of Universities are not properly qualified and they are having to be mentored to get a good output adding that customer service needs a lot of improvement from the Ministry of Health.
Sayed-Khaiyum says that new doctors and nurses will need to be able to have a level of training and exposure from those who are senior to them.
He adds that just as a lawyer is admitted to bar, they cannot go to the High Court for the first 2 years because they will need to be mentored by a senior legal practitioner
