New Zealand stopped this afternoon to reflect and remember the victims of last week’s Christchurch terror attack that claimed 50 lives.

The Muslim Call to Prayer went out, followed by two minutes of silence as thousands gathered at Hagley Park opposite the Al Noor Mosque in Deans Avenue in Christchurch.

NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Muslim leaders led the two minutes’ silence and call to prayer.

Ardern says New Zealand mourns with you, we are one.

Hundreds of Muslims gathered at Hagley Park to pray as they usually do after noon on the Muslim holy day of congregational prayer, this time, in safety.

Men lined the front with the women behind them, many wearing white as a sign of peace.

Across the nation, others joined in the mark of silence, many in mosques but also gathering at various meeting places to honour the memory of those who lost their lives.
