The New World Supermarket on Shalimar Street in Raiwasa has been partially damaged after an early morning fire today.
New World Group of Companies, Chief Operating Officer Peter Royce says the 22 staff who were working the morning shift were safely evacuated.
Royce says he will provide details later today about the cost of damage and how they intend to assist the staff.
The National Fire Authority confirms that they received the call at 8.11 this morning and firefighters managed to contain the fire after arriving at the scene.
NFA Acting Divisional Fire Officer Central, Ifereimi Vesikula says that the residential space situated above the supermarket is safe as their firefighters managed to confine the fire to the bottom building.
