Ten thousand surgeries are done in hospitals around the country every year and to help address this growing demand the Minister for Health Jone Usamate today commissioned the new Operating Theatre Refurbishment project at the CWM Hospital.
Close to 6000 surgeries are done at the CWM Hospital every year.
This refurbishment project cost $3.89 million and includes the new 25 bed intensive care unit, new burns unit, neurosurgery and orthopedic operating theatre and the extended central sterilization and supply department.
Also commissioned today were the Mammogram Machine, OPG Machine and Paediatric Digital Radiography Machine for the Children’s Ward.
The purchase of the equipment cost more than $400,000.
