The new Emergency Operation Centre in Nabouwalu has been opened.
The common functions of the Emergency Operations Centre is to collect, gather and analyze data, make decisions that protect life and property, maintain continuity of the organization within the scope of applicable laws and disseminate those decisions to all concerned agencies and individuals.
The refurbishment work includes the Communications Room, District Coordinators Office, Customer Service Area and general office with the total cost of $60,910.50.
Permanent Secretary for National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Meleti Bainimarama says every Emergency Operations Centre plays an important role at strategic level during an emergency and it is the central command and control centre that is responsible for carrying out the principles of emergency preparedness and emergency management functions.
It will ensure that there is continuity of operation at National, Divisional, District and in Communities level.
Bainimarama adds that according to the Building Safety and Resilience in the Pacific Project Revised Annual Work Plan of 2016 – 2017, a total of $440,000 was allocated to refurbish the National Emergency Operations Centre’s in the country.
Ten Emergency Operations Centre will be refurbished under this project and this also includes the National Emergency Operation Centre.
