More than 1,000 families residing around Vunidakua Settlement along Cunningham Road now feel safe after the opening of the new Community Police Post.
Community Head Eparama Turaganivalu says that the crime rate is increasing in the area and this was a major concern for them.
He says that they had a community meeting and came up with the suggestion to build a community police post.
Turaganivalu highlighted that the land was donated by Turaga-ni- Mataqali Nawavatu and the community contributed to collect close to $30,000 to complete the project.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has asked the residents to work with the Fiji Police Force.
He says that working together will enable them to reduce incidents of crime.
The Police Commissioner admits that they have shortfalls however they are addressing this through the redress mechanisms.
He has asked the residents to contact the headquarters any time if they see any misconduct from the Police officers.
