Good news for thousands of people of Nasinu as the new $6.83 million worth Makoi Maternity Unit has officially opened.
The facility has $300,000 worth of modern equipment which will take care of maternal health care service.
The project was fully funded by the government and was opened this morning by Health Minister Rosy Akbar.
The 16 bed Makoi Maternity Unit has three labour wards and is for low risk expecting mothers and experienced midwives will be in charge.
The operations will be looked after by the senior staff of the CWM Hospital Maternity Unit and will provide on call advise to the mid wives whenever necessary.
It has been confirmed that the Makoi Maternity Unit is currently providing clinic services to mothers and is operating from 8am to 4.30pm.
Doctors from the CWM Hospital will be visiting the new Unit twice a week to provide clinic services to mothers.
The birthing service at the Makoi Maternity Unit is expected to start in June this year which will run 24/7.
Health Minister Rosy Akbar says the opening of this new maternity unit will ease the pressure and demand at the CWM Hospital.
