“Get it Right! The Minister for Economy needs to know about all the sectors of the economy.”

Minister for Trade and Tourism Premila Kumar stated this in Parliament today after SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula had claimed that government is relying too much on one person and that is on Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Nawaikula had made this comment while speaking on the debate on the Consolidated Report on Investment Fiji 2015 and 2016 Annual Reports.

Nawaikula says the government side comes to Parliament with only one person leading Parliament and also questioned what other government members are doing.

While responding to Nawaikula’s comments, Premila Kumar defended Sayed-Khaiyum by saying there is nothing wrong in having knowledge about all sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile, National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad said that the job of the opposition is to hold Ministers and Parliamentary Committees to account and they will continue to ask questions.

Premila Kumar later told members of Parliament that she agrees that the Opposition has to hold Ministers and government accountable but she says this can only happen if the opposition comes with facts and figures.
