A 31-year-old farmer of Navua who was convicted for raping an 8-year-old girl in 2007 has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by the Suva High Court.
The Court heard that the mother of the victim had put her four children to bed that night, locked the door and went to church.
When she returned with her husband that night, the door was open and the victim was not at home.
Justice Paul Madigan said that according to the doctor’s report the victim has become socially withdrawn.
He said it is also aggravating that the victim was removed from the security of her home at night and taken to a nearby waste land.
The farmer will serve a minimum term of 13 years before being eligible for parole.
