People of Navua can only hope Christmas comes early for them as Navua is expected to be declared a town before the year ends.
The Navua Township Taskforce Committee under the Commissioner Central Office has submitted their report to the Local Government Ministry for consideration.
The Committee says they are now waiting for the boundary map and boundary description to be gazetted.
In order for an urban centre to be declared a town one needs to have the population number, services such as public bus bay, convenience, market, its own hospital, good road condition and its own local authority under the supervision of the Provincial Council.
Navua was expected to be declared a town when the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama opened the new Navua Hospital in July last year but was cancelled in the last minute.
